I read all six perspectives and it is a lot to digest.
The "Away from the "icebergs" perspective says that it no longer makes sense to build a "just in case" collection. This makes sense. We are a small library with limited space and funding, but in order to meet our accreditation guidelines we must spend 15% of our budget on adding new materials to our collection. If Library 2.0 is the future of libraries maybe this guideline needs to be changed.
I liked what "To a temporary place in time..." said when it stated that "Libraries are not merley in communities, they are communities: they preserve and promote community memories; they provide mentors not not for the exploration of stored memory, but also for the creation of new artifacts of memory." I think that is true and it would make a good mission statement. I also agree that as more information becomes more accessible, people will still need experienced tour guides. Are the librarians of the future becoming tour guides?
